get to know our designer and founder melissa
Melissa studied Design for Textiles for 4 years at Heriot Watt University specialising in Printed textile design. She graduated June 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Design for Textiles (Fashion, Interior, Art) with Honours of the First Class. Upon graduating at the age of 21 Melissa was selected to exhibit at New Designers London 2018 alongside the countries up incoming designers and graduates. It was during this time that she realised the fast pace city life away from her family and friends did not compare to living in her Scottish hometown. Melissa has always loved designing and sketching [she did have an arty party birthday party after all] and dreamed of being an artist from a very young age. What better place to start her own textile brand than the Scottish borders, once the heart of textile trade. Initially working from her parent’s office, with a passion for drawing and dream to stock her own products Melissa began designing. Inspired by blossoming blooms and a kaleidoscopeof colour, Melissa has already launched her third collection of kitchen textiles, cosmetic bags and gifting range based here in the Scottish borders.
Melissa originally began her business working from her parent’s little home office, but very quickly ran out of space for her blossoming products. After moving into her own home, Melissa’s parents transformed her old bedroom into her own beautifully blue design space. Not only did they renovate our Honey be Bright studio, our brand wouldn’t function without their help day to day. From admin and accounts and trips to the post office they are always helping out in the background.

the story behind our brand name
On a family holiday to Rhodes each morning during breakfast a lovely Greek waiter brought little girl Melissa a pot of honey. At first, she seemed confused and asked if there was a reason why. He explained that her name in Greek translation was honey bee. With a love for design and passion for colour, Galashiels textiles graduate Melissa launched her first homeware and gift collection as Honey be Bright.
